The Role

As a Transmission and Drive Unit Engineering Designer, you will create detailed, production-ready designs that integrate functionality, safety, quality, and manufacturability. You will partner with Assistant Chief Engineers, Design System Engineers, Safety, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to transform advanced concepts into robust solutions that perform in the real world. Success in this role requires advanced NX CAD modeling and drawing skills, strong attention to detail, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to balance design intent, customer experience, cost, timing, and manufacturing feasibility throughout the development process.

What You Will Do

Develop integrated subsystems and resolve packaging challenges while maintaining design standards and engineering criteria. Develop and integrate component engineering criteria in collaboration with Manufacturing, Assistant Chief Engineers, and Design System Engineers. Create and update detailed 2D drawings, GD&T, tolerance stacks, and other product definition documentation. Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and design-thinking methods to evaluate alternatives and manage trade-offs involving cost, mass, timing, dimensional variation, assembly, and architecture. Integrate global and regional safety requirements into transmission and drive unit designs. Communicate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical issues within the area of responsibility. Participate in Core Meetings, Math Virtual Assessments, and Synch Point reviews to validate design integrity, integration, manufacturability, and design for assembly. Benchmark competitors and industry solutions to evaluate packaging and component performance. Create and maintain NX models and continue to develop NX design skills. Incorporate Voice of the Customer insights into packaging and design solutions.

Basic Qualifications

3 or more years of experience in engineering design. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a Engineering Technology. Advanced NX CAD modeling and drawing skills. Advanced experience with Teamcenter and TcVis. Knowledge of engineering theory and automotive design principles. Knowledge of design for manufacturing and design for assembly. Knowledge of engineering specifications. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to integrate complex subsystems and solve technical problems.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Engineering or a related field. Experience designing transmission and drive unit components. Experience developing Standard Math Models (SMMs), user-defined features, or templates. Knowledge and use of CAE tools. Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) certification. Experience with benchmarking tools and methods. GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE.
