About this role
What if the work you did every day could impact the lives of people you know? Or all of humanity? At Illumina, we are expanding access to genomic technology to realize health equity for billions of people around the world. Our efforts enable life-changing discoveries that are transforming human health through the early detection and diagnosis of diseases and new treatment options for patients. Working at Illumina means being part of something bigger than yourself. Every person, in every role, has the opportunity to make a difference. Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible. We are seeking a motivated Process Engineer to join our Manufacturing Technical Operations (MTO) team and play a key role in advancing our flow cell manufacturing processes. In this role, you will help drive quality, yield, and process performance in a high-volume manufacturing environment while supporting new product introductions, process development, product transfers, and manufacturing sustainment. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Production, Supply Chain, and Engineering teams to solve complex manufacturing challenges, implement process improvements, and deliver robust, scalable solutions that support both current production and future growth. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the development and commercialization of cutting-edge products in a fast-paced, innovative manufacturing environment. Scope of Responsibilities: Supports sustaining process development for Flow Cell Manufacturing, focusing on production continuity, yield improvement, process troubleshooting, and execution of high-priority sustaining initiatives. Partners with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain to resolve process issues, assess material and equipment impacts, and implement containment, corrective, and process improvement actions. Analyzes production and equipment performance data, supports non-conformance investigations, and helps define process controls, limits, and escalation paths. Contributes to rework strategies, documentation updates, process and equipment changes, and cross-functional projects that enhance yield, manufacturability, and graft process performance Provides sustaining process support for the graft area, including response to production issues, yield excursions, system check failures, material concerns, and other high-priority items impacting manufacturing continuity. Apply company policies, procedures, and good documentation practices to support investigations, non-conformances, rework activities, process updates, and change implementation. Uses production data, process history, and cross-functional input to determine appropriate courses of action, escalate risks, and recommend containment or improvement plans. Works cross-functionally with Product Development, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to enable operations for product launches and high-volume manufacturing. Provides guidance and collaborates with area owners, technicians, engineers, and quality partners to resolve issues and maintain process readiness. Works autonomously on day-to-day sustaining priorities and receives limited instruction on new assignments, while escalating business-critical risks or resource needs as appropriate. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions for graft process support, documentation updates, and production-impacting decisions. Experience/Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Nanotechnology, Materials Science, Physical Chemistry, or a related discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience in production support, sustaining engineering, and/or process definition, development, scale-up, improvement, and validation; or a Master's degree in a related field with 0-2 years of relevant
