About this role
Careers that change lives start here. Medtronic is a global leader in healthcare technology with a Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Our 95,000 employees work across more than 150 countries to put patients first — developing innovative medical technologies that improve the lives of 72+ million patients each year. Your unique talents will help shape the future of healthcare while building a career grounded in purpose, growth, and impact. A Day in the Life The Physiological Sensing R&D team develops innovative monitoring technologies that measure and interpret physiological signals to improve patient outcomes. Our portfolio includes anesthesia and depth-of-sedation monitoring, respiratory monitoring, pulse oximetry, regional oximetry, and EEG-based devices. Working with Engineering, Test, Manufacturing, and Production teams, you will assemble and rework prototype PCBAs, build wire assemblies and test fixtures, support hardware bring-up and debugging, execute tests, and help maintain laboratory and production equipment. As a Senior Electronics R&D Engineer you will support prototype hardware development, laboratory testing, technical troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance. Working with Engineering, Test, Manufacturing, and Production teams, you will assemble and rework prototype PCBAs, build wire assemblies and test fixtures, support hardware bring-up and debugging, execute tests, and help maintain laboratory and production equipment.
Primary responsibilities
Assemble, inspect, modify, and rework prototype PCBAs containing fine SMD and through-hole components, including 0201, 0402, and similarly small packages. Perform precision soldering, component replacement, jumper-wire installation, track modification, and PCBA repair using microscopes, soldering stations, hot-air tools, and other appropriate equipment. Build and modify wire assemblies, cable harnesses, connectors, adapters, interface boards, and test fixtures using approved drawings, schematics, and engineering instructions. Prepare prototypes for testing and support PCBA bring-up, electrical characterization, hardware debugging, failure investigation, and design verification. Set up and operate laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, signal generators, logic analyzers, and data-acquisition systems. Execute approved test procedures, record measurements accurately, identify unexpected results, and communicate findings clearly to the responsible engineer. Build, maintain, and troubleshoot electronic test systems, automatic testers, test fixtures, handlers, and associated electrical and mechanical equipment. Perform preventative maintenance and electro-mechanical repairs on laboratory and production equipment, maintaining accurate and traceable records. Support automated testing using Python, LabVIEW, or instrument-control software, including test execution, data collection, and results reporting. Coordinate equipment calibration and maintenance, ensuring equipment is serviceable and within calibration before use. Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to diagnose faults, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurring issues. Maintain tools, components, consumables, ESD controls, and work areas in accordance with 6S, safety, quality-system, and document-control requirements. Support the preparation of prototypes, fixtures, equipment, and test records for medical-device verification and applicable IEC 60601 testing under engineering direction. Perform design and analysis activities under engineering direction.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, with typically 4 or more years of relevant product-development experience. Hands-on experience in fine-pitch SMD and through-hole PCBA assembly, soldering, inspection, modification, and rework. Experience
