Position
Summary: The welding technician in this position is responsible for all Gas Tungsten Arc Welding applications required to meet customer demand within Conroe facility. Must be able demonstrate exceptional weld quality for thin wall stainless tube in all positions as well as understanding of dimensional drawings, preparation of components, fitment and joining per internal procedures for internal and customer approved designs. Operation of automated welding equipment as well as training of other employees of automated processes will be required . Principle Responsibilities: Prepare and visually inspect all components, understand dimensions and design requirements prior to welding for compliance to work order specifications. Assemble fabricated designs prior to final welding to the correct components as called by the work order and tube/weld pipe complete in accordance with the manufacturing procedures. Fittings and special products may be assembled and tack welded using manual and or automated welding techniques. Fittings and special products are welded complete in accordance with current ASME BPVC weld procedures and customer supplied specifications. Welding units are maintained , calibrated and set-up to comply with welding procedures taking into consideration other factors including correct filler wire, compressed gas, and appropriate pressure settings to weld in accordance to the internal procedures and ASME welding procedures. Use 2D dimensional reading skills to interpret engineering or customer supplied drawings and specifications. Use ability to read measuring instruments not limited to, but including tape measure, rulers, calipers, micrometers. Verify protective shielding and restricted area signs are in place before welding. Andon lights to be used while welding is in process. Ability to set up and safely operate the plasma-arc cutting torch in accordance with the manufacturing procedures. Perform material handling functions inside of weld cell applicable to consumable parts, fittings, tubing and other components. Understand, promote and works to meet OSHA and Crane safety practices Qualifications/Experience: Must have minimal of high school education. Should have currently or previously maintained an ASME Section IX certification in GTAW for 316L stainless or be able to demonstrate ability to pass certification during interview weld examination. Must have ability to ASME certify and weld to 1G-6G position on ½ inch – 6 inch pipe. Must have the ability to support development of WPS & WPQR procedures as required in this department. Should have three or more years’ experience with GTAW welding stainless steel and or completed equivalent technical school training. Fabrication experience and the ability to work from dimensional drawings, sketches are required . Five or more years welding experience in a manufacturing environment. Horizontal manual lathe and or manual machining experience are a plus. Simple computer skills required (Excel, Word), ability to translate and communicate professional and through email necessary.
