Site, Business, OR Functional Area Overview This role is part of the   Edison Works Advanced Military Material Systems – Lab Operations   team in   Evendale, Ohio . The team supports the development, maturation, and validation of   advanced military material systems   by running structured experiments, building early process definitions, and generating high-quality data to inform engineering and materials decisions. The Coating Application Specialist will work primarily in a lab setting using an   environmental spray booth   and robotic slurry spray equipment to process   test coupons   and representative samples, supporting technology maturation and repeatable process development.

Overview The   Coating Application Specialist - Slurry Spray Technology   supports development and validation of advanced military material systems through   hands-on robotic slurry spray coating application , early process definition, and disciplined data collection in a lab environment. This role typically does not require an engineering degree, but it does require strong   technical aptitude , attention to detail, and a consistent focus on   safety, quality, and lab discipline . The position plays a key role in translating coupon-level experimentation into robust, repeatable slurry spray processes that can be documented and scaled.

Key Responsibilities

Robotic Slurry Spray Operations : Perform hands-on robotic slurry spray operations in an environmental spray booth, including coupon preparation, slurry mixing, equipment setup/tear-down, and thorough cleaning of spray, mixing, and booth systems. Process Parameter Development : Develop and refine slurry spray process parameters (robot paths, spray rate, atomization settings, booth conditions, cure/bake cycles) to establish early process definitions and advance technology readiness on coupons and representative samples. Experiment Execution & Data Collection : Execute structured lab experiments on coupons, collect process and coating quality data (e.g., thickness, uniformity, defect rates), and summarize results to support materials and engineering decisions. Fixture & Instrumentation Setup : Configure and maintain fixtures, coupon holders, and basic instrumentation to ensure consistent sample positioning, reliable robot operation, and accurate data acquisition. Robot Program & Software Support : Support robotic program and test software development by adjusting robot paths, verifying spray coverage, and helping standardize slurry spray trials and procedures. Inspection & Troubleshooting : Perform in-process inspection and basic characterization of coated coupons (visual inspection, thickness measurement, defect identification) and assist with troubleshooting coating anomalies using established procedures.
