About this role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we're looking for talented people who want to help. You'll join a diverse team of electrical, mechanical, facility, and manufacturing engineers, supply chain specialists, and operations managers, along with other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. Within Infrastructure Services and Data Center Engineering, the Electrical Products and Services team is developing resilient electrical distribution products and systems. Our designs are fundamentally changing the data center, providing operational and financial benefits that are critical to the success of the AWS business and its millions of customers. Our engineers solve challenging technology problems and take big bets on new concepts, enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry. We're seeking a Product Engineering Manager to lead a team of electrical and mechanical engineers, owning end-to-end product design and development of the standardized electrical products that distribute power throughout our data centers — from the electrical room to the rack (e.g., Low Voltage Switchgear, Power Distribution Cabinets (PDU/RPPs), and Power whips built to standards such as UL891, IEC 61439, and UL2875). You will work hands-on with the team on detailed engineering to develop next-generation designs and drive these concepts through qualification, New Product Introduction (NPI), and into at-scale manufacturing and global production. The ideal candidate brings experience working on end-to-end power distribution product design and manufacturing and/or mission critical and data center design experience. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills to develop engineers, inspire teams, and influence partners while creating innovative solutions. This position requires approximately 25% travel to AWS offices, data centers, suppliers, vendors, and product validation sites. While most travel is domestic, some international travel may be required. Open to hiring this position in Austin, Seattle, Columbus, or Northern Virginia. Key job responsibilities Make high-judgment trade-offs between competing priorities, balancing short-term team needs with long-term business objectives, and determining essential features versus those that can be triaged. Drive strategic direction for the team's technical roadmap and influence partner teams across overlapping business and technical domains. Build and lead a high-performing engineering team by hiring talent that demonstrates Amazon Leadership Principles, managing performance and promotions, and creating clear growth plans for each team member. Own the design, qualification, and New Product Introduction (NPI) of power distribution equipment into at-scale manufacturing, meeting quality, safety, cost, and capacity requirements. Identify and mitigate risks, unblock engineers and partner teams, and navigate difficult situations including escalations to ensure project timeliness and success. Collaborate directly with partner teams and suppliers to implement and improve processes regionally and propagate best practices globally. Provide clear technical strategy and communication across all organizational levels.
