Overview
The Sales Director, Federal Public Sector is accountable for leading Microsoft's Federal Government business in Australia. Based in Canberra, this role serves as Microsoft's senior sales leader across key Commonwealth agencies, driving strategic customer relationships, business growth, digital transformation initiatives, and long-term partnerships that help government agencies achieve their missions. This is a senior leadership role focused on building trusted executive relationships, shaping multi-year strategic opportunities, and leading high-performing teams to deliver customer and business outcomes. Success is measured through customer impact, business growth, strategic influence, and Microsoft's relevance as a trusted partner to the Australian Federal Government. Responsibilities ederal Government Business Leadership Lead Microsoft's Federal Public Sector business and customer portfolio in Canberra. Develop and execute long-term account strategies aligned to agency priorities and government objectives. Build trusted relationships with Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries, agency executives, CIOs, CISOs, and other senior government stakeholders. Represent Microsoft as a strategic partner to Federal Government customers. Sales Leadership & Growth Own business performance across a significant Federal Government portfolio, including revenue growth, forecasting accuracy, pipeline health, and customer outcomes. Drive strategic opportunities across Microsoft's cloud, security, data, AI, and business application solutions. Lead complex multi-year sales engagements, procurement processes, and executive negotiations. Ensure disciplined execution against business priorities while maintaining a customer-first mindset. Digital Transformation & AI Enablement Help government customers accelerate secure digital transformation and modernization initiatives. Champion responsible AI adoption aligned with public sector policy, security, governance, and operational requirements. Connect customer priorities to Microsoft's technology roadmap and innovation capabilities. Support customers in transforming strategic initiatives into measurable outcomes. Leadership & Collaboration Lead and develop a high-performing team of account executives and strategic sellers. Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, collaboration, and customer obsession. Mobilize virtual teams across sales, technical, consulting, customer success, and partner organizations. Build strong relationships with strategic partners and the broader public sector ecosystem.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements Australian Citizenship is mandatory, and you will need to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance. Experience operating in highly regulated, high-trust environments. Proven experience leading a large, complex commercial business or customer portfolio with accountability for revenue performance, forecasting accuracy and pipeline management. Demonstrated success navigating complex, multi-year sales cycles, government procurement processes, and executive-level negotiations. Experience leading high-performing teams and influencing outcomes across highly matrixed organisations. Executive presence and credibility to engage with Secretaries, agency executives, Ministers, and senior government decision-makers.
Preferred Experience
Experience selling to or partnering with Australian Federal Government agencies. Deep understanding of the public sector landscape, government priorities, and stakeholder environment. Experience leading large-scale strategic transformation programs involving multiple stakeholders. Working knowledge of cloud, security, data, and AI solutions, with the ability to translate technology capabilities into business and mission outcomes.
