About this role

Standard Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer – Debris Coordinator plays a critical, multidisciplinary role on the NGI AUR vehicle integration team. By embedding debris‑mitigation thinking from the design phases through verification and sustainment, the engineer helps safeguard the interceptor’s performance, protects costly hardware, and ensures the program meets its stringent safety and reliability requirements. This role requires a blend of solid aerospace engineering fundamentals, specialized debris‑analysis expertise, and strong communication and risk‑management abilities. • Work under the limited direction of other mechanical engineers to research, design, analyze, and develop innovative components, assemblies, and systems of varying complexity while assuring sound technical rigor and timely delivery. • Functionally own specific mechanical systems and delegate tasks  • Develop, review, and maintain engineering documents, specifications, and technical analyses, including 3D solid models and 2D drawings. • Be a member of multiple integrated product teams, reciprocally interacting with other engineers, adjacent functions, suppliers, and stakeholders, to support products through the entire engineering lifecycle. • Represent the organization in design reviews, readiness reviews, and review boards.  • Collaborate with procurement, manufacturing, and test personnel to supervise the build and validation of hardware in a production environment. • Traveling occasionally to supplier sites or other locations to validate parts, resolve issues, and provide support on site. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical structures. Designs and oversees the plant or manufacturing systems, fabrication, installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment such as conveyor systems, production machinery, and other material-handling equipment used in fabrication, assembly, and other production functions; analyzes engineering sketches, specifications and related data, and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts; oversees the construction of machine and subassemblies considering such specifications as gear ratios, bearing loads, and direction of moving parts; compiles and analyzes test data to determine effect of design on machines in relation to factors such as temperature, pressures, speed, horsepower, and fuel consumption Basic Qualifications
 • Solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals including structures, or mechanisms, and/or materials • Proficiency in industry standard CAD (Creo, Catia, AutoCad or similar) software • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. • Candidate must possess a DoD Secret level clearance.  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, equivalent experience/combined education considered.   Desired Skills
Strong background in aerospace structural/design engineering (B.S./M.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or similar).• Familiarity with debris‑mitigation standards (e.g., MIL‑STD‑882, NASA TMD‑5080). Proficiency in CFD, finite‑element analysis (ANSYS, NASTRAN), and trajectory‑prediction software.• Experience with debris‑impact test equipment and data acquisition. Develop and execute debris‑impact test plans (e.g., hyper‑velocity impact, low‑velocity fragment tests).Review test data, assess compliance. Ability to develop and maintain requirements traceability matrices and risk registers.• Experience with systems‑engineering tools (DOORS, Jama, etc.). Translate system‑level debris‑tolerance requirements (e.g., from MIL‑STD‑882, NASA debris standards, or internal NGI guidelines) into detailed, verifiable design requirements.• Maintain traceability matrices linking requirements to design features, analyses, and test cases.
