The Technical Applications Specialist - Clinical Microbiology works directly with clinical labs to implement and optimize clinical and veterinary bacteriology instrumentation and software, delivering hands-on technical support that improves workflow and patient outcomes. In this travel-driven, science-focused role, you’ll partner closely with sales to drive adoption, expand accounts, and achieve regional growth—unlocking strong financial rewards and incentive opportunities tied directly to your success in the field. This position is part of the Microbiology Technical Applications Support team and located in the Chicago and surrounding regions and is fully remote. This role reports to the Technical Applications Manager for the Microbiology territory and is part of a collaborative Microbiology Technical Applications Support team serving the Chicago, IL region—working remotely while staying closely connected to service and support teammates across the territory. In this position, you will have the opportunity to: Be on the front lines of patient impact by partnering directly with clinical labs—prioritizing support, following through quickly, and delivering Beckman Coulter solutions that help generate accurate, timely results when they matter most. Lead the implementation of MicroScan analyzers with a patient-first mindset, designing and executing customer-driven plans that elevate antimicrobial stewardship, improve turnaround times, and strengthen clinical decision-making. Serve as a trusted scientific partner, collaborating in the lab to troubleshoot challenges and address technical needs with urgency—ensuring consistent, reliable, high-quality performance. Reimagine lab workflows with purpose, introducing innovative, actionable strategies that reduce manual touchpoints, enhance efficiency, and drive meaningful improvements—while continuously learning and applying new microbiology technologies across IT, LIS, and integrated software and hardware systems. The essential requirements of the job include: Bachelor’s degree in field with 5+ years' experience. OR Master’s degree in field with 3+ years' experience Clinical laboratory experience and/or previous technical applications experience, including hands-on system
