Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY: The duties of a Medical Staff Clerk are to document at the direction of the physician, patient information into the patient chart. Clerks are not patient care providers; they only assist the physician in documentation. The general duties of a Medical Clerk include documentation into the patient chart, responding to various messages as directed by the provider, locating information within the chart for review and researching information as requested by the physician. The clerk's performance and documentation must be compliant with all related legal and regulatory requirements Qualifications JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. The Medical Clerk must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the department and hospital.
Education
High School Graduate, BSN or medical assistant certification preferred.
Experience
Experience in a hospital environment desirable. Licensure/Certification: N/A Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of general and psychiatric principles, working concepts and theory, age-specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management, individual, group and family therapy. Able to work cooperatively with other site staff and involved community agencies. Good organization skills, as well as oral and written communication skills. Supervision Received: Medical Officer. Supervision Exercised: None. Environmental Conditions: Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients with crisis prevention interventions. Push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping.
