Engineering Director Home and Health - New Taipei City

As the Engineering Director for Device Software, you will lead the software engineering organization within the Home business to build and power market-leading home hardware. In this role, you will bring cutting-edge AI capabilities to life through industrial design, exceptional performance, and uncompromised quality—setting a new benchmark for the smart home. You will oversee the software development for premier smart cameras and first-party (1P) hubs, delivering the industry’s best Gemini Assistant experience across home automation and entertainment. Additionally, you will scale device software capabilities across both 1P and third-party (3P) ecosystems—including displays, TVs, routers, and speakers—while driving feature adoption that powers subscription growth. Beyond your core product responsibilities, you will serve as the Taiwan Site Lead on behalf of the Home & Health organization, advocating for culture, alignment, and operational excellence. The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Define and execute multi-year technical roadmaps, taking full accountability for the planning, execution, and success of complex technical initiatives. Build and mentor a high-performing engineering culture grounded in technical excellence, user obsession, collaboration, and a bias for action.  Align with cross-functional partners on strategic roadmaps. Inspire teams to invent and deploy cutting-edge software solutions, guiding them through strategic pivots in a dynamic environment. Act as site leader for the Taiwan engineering office, fostering culture, alignment, and operational excellence for the Home & Health organization.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience. 15 years of experience in engineering. Experience with full stack, client and front-end engineering. Preferred qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related field. Experience deploying local AI/ML models for smart features (e.g., speech recognition, vision processing). Proven ability to design end-to-end device software spanning embedded layers, local applications, and cloud communication protocols. Proven record taking products (e.g., smart displays, cameras) from concept (NPI) to market release. Deep expertise in kernel/OS software, firmware bring-up, system-level debugging, and hardware program collaboration. High EQ to inspire and lead high-performing teams. Technical depth to solve complex challenges innovatively. Proven team-builder who thrives in fast-shifting environments.
