Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Materials and Asset Management Consultant who excels at applying their theoretical skills to real world problems to create sustainable solutions. In this role, you will identify and address complex engineering challenges for clients in industries such as infrastructure, utilities, and government. You will also combine your research knowledge with prior consulting experience to deliver practical and sustainable solutions for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
Durability management for engineering projects – Support the development and implementation of project-specific durability strategies from concept design through to delivery. Technical assessment and service life modelling - Assess environmental exposures using national and international standards and identify their influence on the deterioration mechanisms common construction materials, such as concrete, masonry, steel and timber. Specification of construction materials and additional protective measures – Prepare technical specifications for concrete, steel, coatings and composite materials, ensuring compliance with AS, BS, EN and ACI standards. Condition assessment of existing structures – Plan and execute inspections of concrete, steel and composite structures, incorporating non-destructive testing, material sampling and laboratory testing. Design of repairs, remediation and rehabilitation to arrest deterioration – Develop repair strategies that address both symptoms and underlying causes of deterioration. Prepare design documentation for concrete repairs and crack injection, surface treatments and cathodic protection. Select solutions that balance durability, constructability, safety and whole-of-life value. Asset Management – Development of a range of strategic, tactical, operational documents such as Asset Maintenance Plan, Asset Lifecycle Plans, and Strategic Asset management plan (SAMP) Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Materials Science) Prior consulting experience in Australia Hands-on exposure to predictive modelling of deterioration mechanisms in concrete. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues and propose creative solutions. Proficient in relevant engineering and analytical software (e.g. Excel, Autodesk, Midas, etc). Willingness to travel and work away from home for inspection-based work. Experience across major infrastructure sectors (bridges, tunnels, ports and water infrastructure).
