The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location within the GES Global Engineering Services division. The position develops, implements and monitors programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental, health and safety regulations both locally for Abbott Park as well as supporting all 5 divisions globally What You'll Work On: Oversee the local environmental program to ensure Divisional personnel implement and maintain the ongoing program in accordance with regulatory requirements. Develop and submit ongoing regulatory compliance documents related to various air/water/waste/community right to know/other regulatory programs. Serves as primary liaison with environmental regulators for air, water and waste, for all needs such as permitting, monitoring, and reporting. Develops and provides training (air, water, waste, internal management standards, technical programs, sustainability goals) for employees locally and globally. Works independently most of the time and uses judgment in data analysis to develop and design solutions to difficult EHS problems. Serves as a resource to division management and EHS staff on matters relating to environmental compliance, sustainability, and general safety. Provides on call support for EHS emergencies in Lake County. Conducts ISO 14001 /ISO45001 gap assessments and internal audits. Provides day-to-day management oversight of EHS Sr. Specialist, while also working independently to solve day-to-day problems. Applies professional experience and education to develop innovative and practical solutions to local and Divisional challenges. Supports facility Emergency Response, Fire Plan and release reporting actions. Complies with U.S. EPA regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Required Qualifications
B.S. Degree in Environmental Engineering or related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety field with both hands on and program management experience. Ability to navigate and interpret EHS regulations. Expected to function with little direction and be able to independently drive complex projects to completion. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and daily responsibilities.
