About this role
Citi is seeking a Director for the Technology, Operations & Privacy Legal Team to lead an international team of attorneys delivering legal counsel on technology transactions, third-party contracting, and enterprise client data management. In this senior role, you will directly negotiate and advise stakeholders on complex technology agreements, advise Citi's client organization team on client data management matters across the enterprise, and shape contracting strategy alongside senior business and functional leaders. Sitting within Citi's Enterprise Advisory Legal function, this position carries team leadership responsibility and plays a central role in enabling business innovation through sound legal guidance.
Responsibilities
Serve as a legal advisor to Citi's global client organization team on client data management matters, providing counsel on how client data is governed, shared, and used across the enterprise. Deliver legal support, advice, and guidance across a broad range of practice areas, including technology transactions, third-party contracting, and specialized matters such as artificial intelligence, credit bureaus and ATM services. Lead the negotiation and drafting of complex technology agreements, so that Citi's contracting positions are defensible, commercially sound, and aligned with applicable law. Advise senior business and functional stakeholders on legal matters spanning technology transactions, data sharing parameters, and third-party contract arrangements, translating complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance. Manage and mentor a team of attorneys, setting clear direction, evaluating performance, and supporting professional development to sustain a high-performing legal function. Partner with Risk, Compliance, and business leadership to identify and address legal and regulatory risks associated with third party relationships, technology initiatives, and strategic business decisions. Coordinate across lines of business and internal legal teams to deliver consistent, efficient outcomes on third-party service provider arrangements and collaborative commercial agreements. Participate in risk review forums and strategic planning sessions, applying legal expertise to evaluate and advise upon issues that could carry financial, reputational, or regulatory consequences for Citi. Handle novel issues, often on an urgent basis, by applying a pragmatic business approach and general legal principles to quickly review bespoke agreements and issues outside core area of expertise. Required Qualifications & Skills 10 or more years of contract negotiation and drafting experience, with a clear focus on technology transactions and in-house legal advisory work. Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, with a bar license in good standing to practice law in the assigned jurisdiction. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of legal professionals. Track record of advising on and closing complex commercial deals, including the ability to identify legal risk, develop practical recommendations, and negotiate effectively with senior counterparts. Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal matters into crisp, business-ready guidance for senior stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple complex assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, maintaining sound judgement and clear prioritization across competing demands Beneficial Skills & Qualifications Experience with financial institutions and/or financial markets preferred. Familiarity with enterprise data management, governance frameworks, or client data sharing arrangements in a regulated environment. Experience operating within a large organization, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships and align stakeholders across functions and business lines.
