Software Engineer

Software Engineer Role Description We want a Software Engineer to join the Website Starter Kit (WSK) team. WSK helps teams across Principal produce secure, accessible, and scalable web experiences faster by offering reusable website foundations, cloud services, developer tools, automation, and AI-enhanced features. You will collaborate with product teams, architects, designers, and platform engineers to build and improve solutions that enrich developer experience, accelerate delivery, and support enterprise standards. Reporting Relationship This role will report to Delivery Manager / Senior Delivery Manager.

Building and improving reusable website capabilities, templates, and engineering patterns. Developing modern cloud-native solutions using AWS and DevOps guidelines. Working together with multiple departments to provide secure, accessible, and scalable web experiences. Driving automation, CI/CD improvements, and AI-assisted development practices. Contributing to platform modernization, developer experience, and self-service tooling. Applying accessibility, quality, and engineering standards throughout the development lifecycle. Monitoring, addressing issues, and supporting platform reliability and performance. Participating in agile delivery, technical discussions, demos, and exchanging information. Supporting platform operations through a shared on-call rotation.

Education Graduate/Bachelor's degree (preference in computer science, technology, engineering) or equivalent experience. Indicative Years of Experience 2-4 years Abilities We want an engineer experienced in Drupal, modern front-end tools, and AWS cloud-native development. The candidate will provide scalable, secure, accessible, and AI-enabled digital experiences across the full software development lifecycle. Key skills include: Drupal development, theming, and CMS administration HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, and web component development AWS cloud and serverless application development Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK/TypeScript) API build, integration, and event-driven architectures DynamoDB and NoSQL database build Cloud security (IAM, OAuth2) and DevOps/CI-CD practices GitHub Actions and modern software delivery workflows Monitoring, observability, and production support WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Drupal AI, Canvas AI) Other Strong technical skills are essential. Knowledge of SDLC, solid competence and positive attitude, strong reasoning and communication skills are a must. You should be a great teammate with good analytical skills, a research-focused approach, and have excellent time management. Quick learning ability, a growth outlook, and the ability to train junior team members are crucial to this role.
