Collins Aerospace is looking for a Senior Stress Engineer who will perform structural analysis in support of metallic nacelles and aerostructure components using standard analysis methods and finite element approaches. You will conduct design trades and final product configuration definitions considering safety, strength, weight, cost & producibility for Military & Commercial applications. In addition, you will collaborate with both domestic and international engineering support teams on technical aspects of the stress analysis activities.
What You Will Do
Responsible for performing Stress analysis of aircraft components, assemblies, and systems while working as an integrated team for design studies. Solve challenging structural analysis problems via research and coordination with subject matter experts/chief engineers. Perform structural analysis includes development of finite element models and loads, and performing static, fatigue and damage tolerance, fracture, and vibration analysis. Evaluate structural integrity of aircraft structures by way of classical hand analysis and finite element methods. Generate documentation to report analysis and test results to support airworthiness certification. Participate in continuous improvement activities and events. Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit. Supports operation of equipment engineering systems by evaluating and interpreting needs and problems and develops effective approaches to resolving those issues. Ability to work independently and in a team environment, strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills required with experience communicating and presenting technical information to senior level leadership. Perform trade studies and other duties as required.
Qualifications
You Must Have: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field. Experience in a Stress Engineer role.
Qualifications
We Prefer: Experience in performing Structural Analysis of Complex Mechanical Systems and Aircraft components using classical hand calculations methods and Finite Element Analysis tools. Good understanding of Structural Load Paths, and Free Body Diagrams (FBD’s) Experienced in performing Static, Fatigue
