Job Title: Senior SMT Manufacturing Engineer Job Code: 43815 Job Location: San Diego, CA Job Schedule: 9/80 Job Description: Lead all Manufacturing Engineering activities necessary to support SMT production of high reliability circuit card assemblies (CCAs) for advanced satellite telemetry, tracking, and command equipment. Expert knowledge of solder paste stencil printing, automated pick-and-place, convection oven reflow, board cleaning, X-ray examination, and hot-air rework processes. Willingness to perform hands-on activities including pick-and-place machine programming, reflow profile development, process optimization, and equipment troubleshooting. Collaborate with outside machine vendors and internal Facilities Technicians to assure preventative maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to SMT equipment. Facilitate new product introduction (NPI) transfer from Engineering to Production. Support day-to-day SMT production issues, root-cause investigations, yield inpromement activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. Conduct SMT equipment/process training for production Operators. Essential Functions: • Work closely with other members of cross functional IPTs to oversee development and transfer of new products from Engineering to Production • Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) assessments for new printed circuit boards (PCBs) and CCAs. • Establish manufacturing processes, validate process equipment, develop manufacturing tooling, and qualify materials required for new product introduction (NPI) • Create work instructions, assembly routings, and establish associated labor/cycle time standards. Perform economic analyses to identify and address variances in planned labor and cycle times. • Attend daily shift huddles and weekly scheduling meetings to facilitate SMT equipment utilization metrics • Perform root cause analysis and develop/implement corrective actions to address product non-conformances Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. • 5+ years Automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) process experience Preferred Additional Skills: • MyCronic/MyData pick-and-place equipment • SMT support software: PADS, Valor, CircuitCam • CAD softare: Autocad, Solidworks • 3D Printing • Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green or Black Belt • Expert knowledge of J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 requirements for the manufacture of electronic assemblies • Excellent leadership and communication skills In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $96k - $178k.
