About the Role
We're looking for a dedicated software engineer skilled in both front-end and back-end development to join our Motors Engineering team in Toronto. As a Member of Technical Staff 1, you'll build both customer-facing web experiences and the backend services that power them. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers, product managers, designers, and architects to deliver scalable, reliable, and intuitive products for millions of eBay customers. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working across the full technology stack, solving challenging technical problems, writing high-quality code, and continuously learning in a collaborative environment. You'll contribute throughout the software development lifecycle—from design and implementation to deployment and production support.
What You'll Do
Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality full stack software for eBay Motors products and services. Build responsive, accessible, and performant web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks. Develop scalable backend services, APIs, and business logic that power customer experiences. Collaborate with Product Management, UX Design, Data Science, and Quality Engineering to deliver customer-focused solutions. Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and architectural decisions. Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable, long-term solutions. Write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure software quality. Help improve engineering practices, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and operational excellence. Continuously improve existing systems by reducing technical debt and simplifying complex solutions.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Professional experience building full stack web applications. Strong proficiency in JavaScript and experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React , Marko, Vue Experience developing backend services using Java , Kotlin , or another modern object-oriented programming language. Solid understanding of HTML5, CSS3, responsive web development, and modern browser technologies. Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and experience integrating frontend applications with backend services. Understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and software engineering best practices. Experience with Git, automated testing, and continuous integration and delivery workflows. Strong problem-solving
