As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. The Knowledge Catalog team owns core search infrastructure and search quality frameworks, powering the discovery of billions of assets for Google employees. Our mission is to make google's internal data discoverable for both Google employees and agentic workflows.The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Lead the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for Knowledge Catalog’s (Core) hybrid semantic search infrastructure and search quality evaluation platform. Architect scalable, low-latency distributed infrastructure to achieve sub-second P95 latency Service Level Agreements (SLAs) across various search use-cases. Build a scalable search infrastructure for agents and humans. Foster engineering excellence, robust system design, and production reliability across all search serving and indexing pipelines. Mentor and grow other Individual Contributors (ICs), establishing Bengaluru site as a Center of Excellence for search infra and quality use-cases.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience in software development. 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products. Experience in distributed databases and large-scale distributed systems. Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. 3 years of technical leadership experience (e.g., Tech Lead/Staff Engineer) driving architectural roadmaps, system design, and cross-team project collaborations. Experience architecting high-throughput, low-latency search back-ends, indexing pipelines, or information retrieval (IR) platforms.
