An amazing opportunity exists for an experienced attorney to join Capital One’s Consumer & Small Business Legal team. In this critical business counsel role, you will provide strategic legal counsel to the team that manages Capital One’s branches and cafes. You will also support our customer complaints line of business. Senior executives at Capital One rely on trends identified in customer complaints to make business decisions - you will serve a critical role in investigating, responding to and identifying strategic insights from these complaints. In this role, you will support Capital One’s customer-facing physical footprint and help identify trends within the company, across the financial industry, as well as both the federal and state regulatory environment. As business counsel, you will: Serve as the Legal point of contact for bank and cafe operations functions - including support for questions that arise in connection with branch and cafe servicing and operations strategy; Provide legal advice and support on responses to customer complaints and disputes; Work with compliance and business partners to investigate consumer complaints and develop appropriate written response; Identify and coordinate resolution of potential line of business compliance or operational errors; Provide legal advice on approaches for standardized responses to particular types or recurring instances of complaints or non-lit demands for compensation; Provide information on litigation and regulatory trends; “Translate” the laws and legal requirements for the business teams and the business intent for the legal team and legal subject matter experts; and Actively engage with colleagues to provide legal support as part of a collaborative and cross-functional team. This role is hybrid meaning associates spend 3 days per week in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting.
Basic Qualifications
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school Active member in good standing of at least one state bar At least 3 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate or as in-house counsel Preferred Qualifications: 4+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency involving regulatory experience, with specific experience in advising bank depository business teams Expertise in Regulation E, Regulation CC, Regulation DD, UDAAP, Articles 3, 4 and 4A Knowledge of deposit account ownership structures, FDIC insurance requirements Knowledge of The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Ability to prioritize and manage a significant volume of legal questions on a broad array of topics with multiple and simultaneous deadlines Ability to rapidly synthesize new information and make quick, well-grounded decisions Ability and desire to learn new areas of law Strong communication and interpersonal skills Strong analytical and organizational skills At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.
