Job Description
Direct accountability for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) performance and compliance throughout AbbVie’s Operations organization for 25+ manufacturing sites / locations around the globe. Support AbbVie Operation organizations including Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Product Development Science and Technology (PDS&T), Facilities, and Maintenance. Responsible for staffing, mentoring, developing above site and site EHS professionals to ensure compliance. Provide functional EHS guidance to AbbVie organizations that are day to day supported by manufacturing site EHS leads and respective staff. Develop programs and systems to prevent catastrophic safety and environmental events from occurring in plant manufacturing operations. Position has the responsibility to manage & lead approximately 60+ direct and indirect EHS professionals located at AbbVie Operations manufacturing sites/locations globally.
Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of EHS for Operations manufacturing sites. AbbVie Operations is a dynamic, fast past environment, with high impact EHS risks across various sites. This role will lead efforts to mitigate all levels of risk while exceeding regulatory compliance and driving a strong EHS culture. • A recognized leader in EHS with strong technical skills and strong interpersonal skills, as well as extensive international experience. Needs to understand regional and global business drivers and regulations. • High level negotiations with external EHS regulatory agencies throughout the world. • Keeping current on emerging technologies and regulatory issues that have the potential to impact the business. • Experience working in a matrix organization to actively partner with Operations personnel to ensure regulatory compliance, and consistent, effective EHS program implementation throughout global operations. • Contribute to the global EHS vision and Long-Range Plan (LRP) strategy for global manufacturing and all Operation’s support organizations. • Developing and maintaining EHS standards, policies, systems, and methods for EHS related activities. • Regulatory strategies to minimize liability, support business growth, and enhance operational flexibility. • Collaborate with EHS leaders to understand trends, issues, and implications to the business. Collaborate closely with the AbbVie corporate EHS resources on all issues related to global EHS. • Position is responsible for all compliance at a Country, Federal, State, and local EHS compliance related to safety, environmental, industrial hygiene, emergency response, moving to zero EHS impacts, incident investigation, EHS training, high level presentations, etc. Qualifications • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, environmental, occupational safety, or Industrial hygiene is required, and a Master’s degree is preferred. • 15 years of EHS experience with a minimum of 10 years supervisory /managerial experience is required. • Extensive technical expertise in EHS, with site level experience is preferred. • A minimum of 5 years’ experience leading staff of senior-level EHS professionals is required. • International experience and ability to travel globally as needed. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Strong team leadership experience involving cross-functional participants. • A positive
