Grande Prairie lumber manufacturing facility is looking for skilled Kiln/Yard Coordinator for an immediate opening. The Kiln/Yard Coordinator is under the direction of the Shipping/Kilns Team Lead. They are assigned duties of relaying instructions, and advising the progress of the work, and assisting the common effort of maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and quantity of production.
POSITION
REQUIREMENTS PM Infeed Forklift, SM Outfeed Forklift, PM Outfeed Forklift (preferred bit not necessary) Kiln Forklift, Kiln Operator, Bucket Loader Operator (preferred but not necessary), and Skid steer Operator (preferred but not necessary) Utilizes trained skills to assist mill needs as required in cleanup/operational capacities Fills in for vacation time for forklift roles on night/day shifts when applicable. Regular schedule outside of coverage will be decided by the Kilns/Shipping supervisor to meet business needs; When no vacancies are to be filled, the kiln coordinator will be typically scheduled to assist during the Monday-Friday work week on a 40hr/week schedule, varying between 8-12 hours. The lead hand will assist the mill with snow removal in the lumber yard areas The lead hand will manage the yard and maintain housekeeping in the green/dry/finished yards and kilns, by: Regular cleanup of rows and adjusting pile bottoms Using the bucket loader for snow removal Sweeping the tracks weekly using a skid steer or by hand Winter shoveling when applicable Coordinator will report directly to the Kilns/Shipping supervisor Coordinator will assist supervisor in managing pre-inspection sheets, entering notifications and, and communicating with the Kiln Planner on the status of equipment on a frequent basis. Manage with the kiln operators the kiln loading as per the direction Product Supply Manager Evaluate moisture targets and kiln settings with Planermill QC to ensure drying targets are being met. Work with Planermill Quality Control to calibrate the Planermill Moisture meter. Assist and check all kiln alarms and ensure that the set points of the kiln schedules are being achieved Check and record moisture levels of dry packages and make changes to kiln set points as required Review kiln logbooks daily for status of equipment. Support the production forklifts for breaks, according to the mill’s priority area. Assists other Forklift Operators should they require help during high-volume periods. Manage stick, pile bottom and dunnage inventory levels Ensure general housekeeping and housekeeping audit commitments are met. Assist in ensuring that all SOP’s are reviewed annually. Create and conduct training plans for Kiln Forklift Operators and Kiln Operators. Working knowledge of sprinkler system. Review and correct package labeling Ensure optimal operation of kiln carts and wheels Assist Supervisor with onboarding of new employees/ trainees. Review SOP’s, lockouts, and operating methods, or provide coverage for posted operators so they can facilitate the training. Assist in ensuring new or transferred employees are signed off on training and are competent to safely operate before they are left on their own. Ensure necessary safety equipment is available. Inspect for employees understanding of lockout procedure for areas that they work in.
