About this role
Amazon continues to invest in its Advertising business, and Publisher Technologies builds the services and data capabilities that enable Amazon’s first party publishers to improve customer experiences and monetize their inventory. The Publisher Technology Data, Insights, and Analytics team provides the near real time data, analytics, reporting, and data management tools used by hundreds of teams across Amazon to understand advertising performance, make business decisions, and support machine learning at scale. As a Business Intelligence Engineer II, you will design and own analytical solutions that turn large, complex datasets into actionable insights. You will build data models, ETL pipelines, dashboards, metrics, and reporting tools while working across engineering, science, product, and business teams. You will investigate performance trends, establish reliable measurement frameworks, and design experiments that improve publisher and advertiser experiences. You will own mid to large scale BI solutions, often starting with loosely defined business problems and translating them into clear analytical approaches and deliverables. The role requires strong SQL, data modeling, visualization, and analytical skills, along with the ability to understand data lineage, identify the business context behind metrics, and communicate findings that influence product and business decisions. Key job responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain BI solutions including data models, ETL workflows, dashboards, and reports that serve your team and its stakeholders, ensuring solutions are testable, performant, and well-documented. - Collaborate with business partners and technical teams to refine ambiguous problems into specific deliverables, recommend alternatives, and anticipate future analytical needs based on a deep understanding of the business context. - Apply SQL expertise and data engineering best practices to extract, transform, and load data at scale, while optimizing query performance and minimizing resource usage across the team's data infrastructure. - Create compelling data visualizations and self-service reporting tools that enable stakeholders to interpret results independently and make informed decisions quickly. - Mentor peers on the team's BI architecture and data lineage, contribute to design and scoping discussions, and apply basic statistical methods to support analytical rigor in solving business problems. A day in the life You start your morning reviewing a stakeholder request for a new metric, working through the data lineage to understand how upstream systems generate the underlying signals. After refining the requirements in a quick sync with your business partner, you spend focused time writing SQL and building a new data model. In the afternoon, you pair with a teammate to review a dashboard prototype, offer feedback on visualization choices, and wrap up by documenting your design decisions for the broader team.
