Job Description

Position Summary The Plant Electrician is responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and improvement of electrical systems throughout the manufacturing facility. This includes plant electrical distribution, transformers, panels, disconnects, lighting, motors, motor controls, production machinery, and industrial control systems. A primary responsibility of this position is supporting the facility's electrical infrastructure and new equipment installations. The Plant Electrician will evaluate electrical requirements, perform basic load calculations, and properly specify and size electrical equipment such as transformers, conductors, fuses, circuit breakers, disconnects, panels, and raceways. This position will also install and modify electrical systems, run conduit, pull and terminate wire, maintain electrical documentation, and lead or coordinate electrical projects involving outside contractors. The Plant Electrician will also provide electrical troubleshooting and maintenance support for production equipment, including motors, VFDs, contactors, starters, sensors, relays, and control circuits. The successful candidate must be able to diagnose electrical problems efficiently, identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, and complete work in accordance with applicable electrical codes, NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, and company safety procedures. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled, self-directed electrician with strong industrial and commercial electrical experience who can troubleshoot complex electrical problems while also planning and executing facility electrical installations and improvements. The ability to work independently, communicate effectively with maintenance, engineering, production, and contractors, and maintain accurate electrical documentation is essential to the role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial electrical equipment and systems. Perform electrical troubleshooting on production machinery, motors, motor controls, drives, sensors, switches, relays, and control circuits. Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, conduit, panels, disconnects, lighting, and other plant electrical systems as well as motors Have the ability to properly spec out equipment and materials needed such as transformers, wire size, etc. Troubleshoot 480V three-phase, 240V, 120V, 208V, and low-voltage control systems. Diagnose motor and equipment failures using electrical meters and other diagnostic equipment. Troubleshoot and replace VFDs, contactors, motor starters, relays, fuses, breakers, photo eyes, proximity sensors, and related components. Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, equipment manuals, and technical documentation. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical equipment according to established schedules. Respond promptly to production breakdowns and work to minimize equipment downtime. Identify recurring electrical problems and recommend permanent corrective actions. Support installation, modification, relocation, and startup of production equipment. Work closely with maintenance technicians, engineers, production employees, and outside contractors. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records in the facility's CMMS or other maintenance system. Maintain electrical panels, cabinets, and work areas in a safe and organized condition. Ensure electrical work complies with applicable codes, company standards, and facility requirements. Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safe-work practices, PPE requirements, and all plant safety procedures. Participate in continuous improvement, reliability, and equipment-upgrade projects. Assist with mechanical maintenance when instructed by maintenance manager Perform other duties as assigned by maintenance manager Lead any electrical projects that may require outside support Assist with arc flash studies
