A Day in the Life Patient Care Systems develops the connected software ecosystem supporting Medtronic implantable cardiac devices. The organisation builds secure device connectivity, data platforms, clinical tools and patient-facing experiences that help clinicians monitor and manage patients living with cardiac devices. This position is based at our Parkmore Campus, Galway, Ireland and will be a hybrid working model. As a Software Cloud Engineer II specialising in platform engineering, you will develop and operate shared platforms, services and automation that support software delivery across Patient Care Systems. You will work with global engineering, architecture, security, data and infrastructure teams to improve developer productivity, platform reliability and operational efficiency for software supporting implantable cardiac devices.

Develop and operate shared engineering platforms and services that support software delivery across Patient Care Systems. Build and maintain automation that improves developer productivity, operational efficiency and platform reliability. Implement, test, deploy and support defined platform capabilities with general supervision. Create reusable tools, technical documentation and runbooks that simplify engineering workflows and operational support. Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes and implement improvements to systems and engineering processes. Collaborate with software engineers, architects, security specialists, data professionals and infrastructure teams to deliver project objectives. Apply software development, automation, cloud computing, security, reliability and operational excellence practices throughout the development lifecycle. Contribute to technical design discussions, project milestones and engineering enablement initiatives, providing guidance to entry-level engineers when appropriate.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or Information Systems and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in one of these disciplines. Experience creating or maintaining repeatable infrastructure and configuration using Terraform, Helm or comparable infrastructure automation tools. Experience implementing monitoring, logging or observability-as-code practices using Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, OpenTelemetry or comparable technologies. Experience independently implementing, testing, deploying or supporting software, cloud infrastructure or engineering platform capabilities.

Experience with public cloud platforms and cloud infrastructure services. Experience developing software or automation using a modern programming or scripting language. Experience with source control, automated testing and continuous integration or continuous delivery practices. Experience with containerisation, distributed systems, event streaming, databases or modern application platforms.
