R&D Tax – Engineering Consultant (Oil and Gas, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering)   If you’re looking to join a rapidly growing Research and Development tax incentives team, bringing the benefits of not only a variety of work, clients and project teams but also with strong support structures in place to help you achieve your career goals, this is the team for you!   The opportunity An exciting opportunity to work in EY’s Global Grants Credits & Incentives team based in our central London office, alongside other STEM professionals, as well as tax and accounting colleagues. This role is focussed on our portfolio of energy, oil and gas, chemicals and process industry clients, and we are looking for someone with genuine engineering background in that space.   You will be partnering with a variety of clients who are at the front line of developing technology across oil and gas operations, petrochemicals, speciality chemicals and the energy transition. You will help these organisation access global R&D tax incentives to support continued investment in innovation.   The successful candidate will get the opportunity to work as part of a diverse team of highly successful industry and tax specialists. You will be required to lead interviews with the senior and lead technical personnel at our clients across a wide range of different industries to help identify the scientific and technological aspects of their R&D projects that qualify for R&D tax relief. You will play an active role in writing and reviewing reports of clients’ R&D projects and taking part in extensive client communication.  Additionally, you will assist with the calculation of R&D tax claims, gaining exposure to R&D accounting and financial analysis.   As well as working directly with existing clients, you will also be offered the chance to support business development opportunities and cross-sector global R&D incentive claims.     Your key responsibilities

Working as an effective member of a project team, exhibiting strong communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with other team members of different skill sets   Writing and reviewing compelling technical project reports to bring out the key technical factors of client projects to support R&D tax claims   Take a leading role in interaction with clients' senior technical and engineering staff in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of the projects undertaken and identify how aspects of projects meet the R&D Guidelines   Undertaking data analysis and calculation to quantify project expenditure Application of advanced problem-solving skills and critical thinking to apply to project execution and delivery   Building and maintaining relationships with clients to provide high levels of client service   Responsible for high-quality delivery of advice and solutions to major clients, ensuring management of risk and reputation   A keen desire to adapt and flex existing knowledge to different sectors and build on core capabilities

Skills and attributes for success

A strong interest in science, technology, and engineering problems Industry experience of the technological challenges faced in oil and gas, chemicals or process industries, for example process design and optimisation, plant and equipment design, flow assurance, separation and treatment processes, catalysis, materials selection and corrosion, scale-up from pilot to production, decarbonisation, or process safety and integrity Excel and data analysis skills.
