Job Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain API gateway and API management solutions using platforms such as Apigee, Kong, Envoy, Akamai, and edge server technologies. Use enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; contribute reusable patterns and learnings to improve team effectiveness. Apply SDLC toolchain knowledge, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase the value realized from automation. Implement and enforce API security standards, including authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth, LDAP, SAML, Kerberos). Engineer API traffic management controls such as rate limiting, throttling, and quota enforcement to support performance and reliability objectives. Implement logging, monitoring, and observability using tools such as Splunk, Grafana, and Datadog to improve visibility and accelerate incident response. Partner with engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver effective solutions for the API developer community. Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvements in code quality, reliability, and maintainability; Communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders to support delivery and project objectives. Develop secure, high-quality production code aligned to engineering standards and best practices. Support platform automation initiatives and cloud-native solution implementations; Engage with the broader engineering community to learn and apply industry frameworks, tools, and SDLC practices. Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 3+ years of applied experience. 3+ years of software development experience. (Note: this overlaps with the line above—typically these are consolidated into a single requirement.) Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., coding, test creation, troubleshooting, documentation) with the ability to evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security. Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and resiliency/security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage. Proficiency in Python and JavaScript Experience in application development, testing, and operational support. Experience designing, implementing, and managing API Gateway solutions (including Apigee, Kong, and Envoy), with strong knowledge of microservices architecture and modern API technologies. Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills; familiarity with SRE practices and incident management to deliver rapid solutions for internal stakeholders. Architectural mindset with focus on scalability, reliability, and best practices in solution design.
