About this role

Amazon Enterprise Security Products is a newly launched group building intelligent, cloud-agnostic security tools using AI-first development practices. We don't just talk about AI — we build AI security products with AI, and we need a leader who sets that standard. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build and lead a high-performing engineering organization where experimentation is the norm, shipping is measured in hours not quarters, and every decision you make shapes the trajectory of the team, the product, and the business. If you've been waiting for a role where you can combine the strategic scope of senior leadership with the hands-on intensity of a startup founder — this is it. Key job responsibilities * Build and lead a world-class engineering organization. Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent. Stand up multiple development teams from the ground up, establishing the structures, rituals, and expectations that define how a high-performing org operates — without the bureaucracy. * Set technical vision and product strategy: Partner with security researchers, applied scientists, product managers, and UX designers to translate customer problems into bold technical bets. Drive the multi-year roadmap for AI-powered security products that protect Amazon's business customers at scale. Your decisions will shape architecture, product direction, and competitive positioning. * Champion AI-native development at the org level: Establish an AI-first engineering culture across your teams; from agentic coding workflows to AI-assisted design and testing. Don't just encourage adoption; measure it, iterate on it, and make it a force multiplier for velocity and quality. You set the bar for how this org builds. * Drive execution with startup urgency: Manage multiple concurrent initiatives across teams while maintaining the speed and focus of a small, scrappy operation. Decompose ambiguous, high-stakes problems into actionable plans. Remove blockers ruthlessly. Ship fast, learn from what you ship, and iterate. * Define and advance AI/ML capabilities: Lead strategic decisions on agentic systems, RAG architectures, conversational interfaces, and intelligent automation pipelines. Evaluate emerging AI capabilities and make high-judgment build vs. buy decisions that keep the team on the forefront of AI. * Own operational excellence and security posture: Establish industry-leading reliability, performance, and security practices across your services. Build scalable, reusable mechanisms that simplify operations and accelerate delivery. Ensure your teams operate with the rigor of Amazon and the agility of a startup. * Influence beyond your org: Drive cross-organizational initiatives, build consensus with senior stakeholders, and write compelling vision documents and strategic narratives. Proactively identify technology gaps and opportunities that extend beyond your immediate scope. * Develop leaders, not just engineers: Grow technical leads and managers through coaching, high-accountability ownership, and real responsibility. Foster a culture where every team member thinks and acts like a founder. A day in the life You start the morning reviewing a product vision draft for a new AI-powered security capability. By mid-morning, you're in a design review challenging your tech leads on system architecture, pushing for simplicity and speed to first customer. After lunch, you're pairing with your SDMs on org planning, figuring out how to staff an ambitious new initiative without slowing the two that are already in flight. You spend part of the afternoon with your product and science partners, aligning on roadmap priorities and debating where agentic AI will create the most customer value. Before end of day, you check in on a rapid prototype your team shipped to internal users yesterday, the feedback is already rolling in. You don't manage from a distance. You're in the details, in the code reviews, in the customer conversations, and
