Job Description

The Role: As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn how Manufacturing Engineers use PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify potential risks, improve quality, and make manufacturing processes better and safer. You will work with experienced engineers and manufacturing teams to learn how PFMEAs are developed, reviewed, and used to support vehicle launches and current production. This internship provides an opportunity to see how engineering concepts are applied in a real manufacturing environment. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, learn how manufacturing risks are identified and reduced, and develop technical, analytical, and teamwork skills that can help prepare you for a career in Manufacturing Engineering. What You’ll Do:    Learn the fundamentals of PFMEA and how it is used in manufacturing. Participate in PFMEA reviews and risk-reduction activities. Assist with analyzing manufacturing processes to identify potential risks. Support engineers with PFMEA data, reporting, and documentation. Participate in PFMEA workshops and learn how different teams work together to solve problems. Learn how lessons learned are captured and applied to future vehicle programs. Gain exposure to vehicle launch activities and the transition from Launch to Plant. Work with Manufacturing, Quality, Launch, and Plant teams. Use Microsoft tools, Google tools, and other computer-based analytical and collaboration tools to organize, analyze, and communicate information. Assist with projects that improve manufacturing quality, productivity, and process reliability.

Required Qualifications

Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Must be graduating between August 2027 and June 2029 Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months Preferred Qualifications:    Exposure to manufacturing, PFMEA, Control Plans, Standardized Work, or vehicle assembly is a plus—but not required Interest in Manufacturing, Engineering, or Automotive processes Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Willingness to learn and ask questions Good communication and teamwork skills Ability to learn and use Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other digital/analytical tools Ability to work effectively with different teams and business partners GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Technical Center in Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum. Travel to manufacturing plants may be required. GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program - to help facilitate administration of relocation benefits, please apply using the permanent address you would move from.
