Northrop Grumman is in need of a Solid Rocket Motor Thermal Analyst  Engineer – level 3/4 to work at its Elkton, Maryland facility.  Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Experience panoramic views from Turkey Point Lighthouse on a bluff overlooking the Bay, or from the banks of the C&D Canal where ships from around the globe cruise. https://www.ccgov.org/government/tourism Responsibilities: Under minimal direction, conduct thermal analyses in support across all Northrop Grumman, Propulsion System and Controls product lines. These simulations include development of thermal or computational fluid dynamic models, gridding, selection of boundary conditions and constraints, selection of applicable material properties, selection of appropriate simulation code and methodology, and performing model validation  Common types of analyses include: thermal analysis of rocket motor case insulation, nozzles, and thermal protection systems; CFD analysis of rocket nozzles, valve systems, case internal flow, posttest assessment of hardware and anchoring model to test data. Independently develop methodology and mathematical models to match the physics of the system under evaluation including proper analysis methods/tools, proper boundary conditions, and appropriate material properties Interpret analytical results and develop recommendations pertinent to system improvement. Provide technical assessments of test hardware and test data including validation of analysis Prepare technical reports and presentations of work product to both internal and external customers Provide technical mentorship and assistance to less experienced staff Take on technical and project leadership in improvement and product teams Support propulsion and subsystem IPT leads to ensure technical and cost execution of each system component. Form close working relationships with the customer technical community and specific customer technical points of contact.
