Clinical Nurse Specialist – Gastrointestinal (GI) Location: The Wellington Hospital, Wellington Place, London, NW8 9LE Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday Contract: Permanent Salary: Competitive salary dependent on skills and experience We're looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Gastrointestinal (GI) team at The Wellington Hospital. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting patients with both benign and malignant gastrointestinal conditions, including lower GI (colorectal), upper GI and hepato pancreato biliary (HPB) pathways. Working within one of the UK's leading private hospitals, you'll be part of a close knit multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering personalised , evidence based care throughout every stage of the patient journey. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the GI service, you'll be a consistent and trusted point of contact for patients from diagnosis onwards. You'll manage a specialist caseload, coordinate complex care pathways and provide clinical expertise , education and emotional support to patients and their families. Working closely with consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team, you'll attend specialist clinics, ward rounds and MDT meetings while helping to drive service development, quality improvement and best practice across the service. What you'll do
Act as a key worker throughout the patient pathway, providing expert support, care coordination and continuity of care. Manage a specialist GI caseload, undertaking holistic assessments and developing personalised plans of care. Provide clinical information, education and emotional support to patients, families and carers, enabling informed decision making throughout treatment. Collaborate with consultants and the multidisciplinary team through clinics, MDT meetings and ward rounds to deliver seamless patient care. Contribute to audit, research, service development and quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and experience.
What you'll bring
Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration, evidence of continued professional development and experience working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within a relevant specialty. Significant post registration experience within a gastrointestinal, gastroenterology, colorectal, upper GI or HPB service, alongside completion of a relevant postgraduate qualification at Level 6 or Level 7. Experience managing complex patient pathways and providing specialist support throughout diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Excellent communication and relationship building skills, with the confidence to work closely with consultants and multidisciplinary teams while advocating for patients and supporting them through challenging and emotionally complex situations. A strong understanding of clinical governance, audit, service improvement and evidence based practice, alongside the ability to lead and influence positive change within a specialist service.
