Senior Database Engineer

About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Database Engineer role In this role, you will: Lead or participate in database management activities including designing highly complex logical and physical databases Lead highly complex data modeling, mapping, integration, and capacity planning efforts Perform the planning, research, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of server class databases Consult with and advise management and multiple clients on high impact data or database management issues, influencing strategic direction Provide technical leadership and recommendation into the future direction of database technology Develop management policies, procedures, standards, and best practices Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals Required Qualifications: 4+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education Desired Qualifications: Expert-level experience with SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery , including: Always On Availability Groups Distributed Availability Group (DAG) Transactional Replication Strong expertise in SQL Server infrastructure, tools, methodologies, and processes Hands-on experience with backup and recovery , disaster recovery planning. Proven experience in planning and executing successful database migrations , including pre‑migration assessment, data validation, controlled production cutover, and post‑migration verification, ensuring minimal downtime and zero data loss. Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning , execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, and query optimization. Strong experience in SQL Server security and compliance , including managing logins, roles, permissions, encryption (TDE), auditing, vulnerability assessments, and ensuring adherence to organizational and regulatory compliance standards. Experience with Observability/monitoring tools like SCOM, Grafana . Experience with backup tools like Cohesity & Performance tools like Query store, Extended events . Hands‑on experience using ServiceNow for Incident, Problem, and Change Management, acting as escalation POC for database incidents , leading RCA , and major incident management . Strong verbal and written communication skills Good to have: Proficiency in PowerShell scripting & T-SQL automation Advanced knowledge of SQL Server internals and performance troubleshooting Exposure to or experience with PostgreSQL (EDB), MongoDB, YugabyteDB , or other distributed databases.
