Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. Visit us online at: https://forestviewhospital.com/ Position Summary: The Financial Counselor is responsible for reviewing insurance eligibility, benefits and authorization with patients, explaining their insurance coverage and collecting any remaining patient balance due. Job Duties/Responsibilities: Reviews admissions within 24 hours to authenticate the accuracy of all (primary and secondary) insurance verification and benefits, demographics and intake scans, creates a new fact sheet for any corrections or changes Accurately codes and enters the verification of all insurance benefits, approvals, and payments in the MS4 patient record. Identifies all potential uncompensated cases and notifies the Business Office Manager in a timely manner. Determines all applicable patient co-pays, deductibles and plan limitations, including calendar year and lifetime limitations, and conducts a financial interview to arrange for payment. Accurately utilizes the accepted Length of Stay (LOS) formula to determine appropriate collection activity. Assists self-pay patients with enrollment in Medicaid services, or determines other insurance benefit eligibility and enrollment. Reports all safety concerns upon discovery to a supervisor, Loss Control Coordinator, Maintenance and/or Environment of Care (EOC) Committee member. Abides by the Hospital’s Safety policies. If injured, complete Employee Accident Report and submit it to the Loss Control Coordinator by the end of the shift worked, and no later than 24 hours after the injury occurred and abides by the Return to Work/Light Duty Program guidelines. If it is a work-related injury and it results in a back injury, completes Back Injury Prevention Training with the Staff Development Coordinator. Meets all annual competency requirements as assigned per department standards. Performs other duties as assigned/required.
