About this role

Standard Job Description
Performs scientific experiments, investigations, observations and related research studies into the nature and operation of natural phenomena in a particular field, using the scientific methods. Develops theories for understanding, characterizing and organizing natural phenomena into a systematic and meaningful pattern for the benefit of project advancement and emerging technologies. May participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts. Lead advanced research, development, and integration of Supportable Low‑Observable (SLO) technologies for the F‑22 program, ensuring reductions in radar cross‑section, infrared, and other signatures while maintaining aircraft performance and sustainment. Travel would be required for up to 50% of time to support offsite locations.

Key responsibilities

Area Typical duties Technical leadership • Define and prioritize SLO research topics (materials, geometry, coatings, active signature management). • Lead cross‑functional IPTs to integrate low‑observable solutions into air‑vehicle designs, test plans, and production processes. Modeling & analysis • Develop high‑fidelity signature‑prediction models (RCS, IR, visual) and validate against flight‑test data. • Use computational electromagnetics (CEM) tools and RCS budgeting to assess design trade‑offs. Materials & processes • Guide selection and qualification of LO‑compatible structural materials, coatings, and treatments. • Oversee laboratory and range testing of signature‑impact of repairs, modifications, and manufacturing processes. Test & evaluation • Plan and execute ground‑ and flight‑test campaigns (RCS, IR, NVIS, etc.) for SLO concepts. • Analyze test data, produce reports, and drive design refinements. Supportability & sustainment • Establish procedures for SLO maintenance, field diagnostics, and repair. • Maintain the LO Health Assessment (LOHAS) database and provide guidance on signature impacts of damage/repair. Collaboration & stakeholder management • Interface with government customers, program office, and supplier teams. • Communicate SLO status, risks, and trade‑studies to senior leadership. Documentation & compliance  • Author technical data packages, standards, and configuration‑management records for SLO features. • Ensure compliance with DoD LO‑related policies and export‑control requirements. Basic Qualifications
 • Bachelor’s degree or above in one of the following fields: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or another technical degree program Desired Skills
•Experienced with Radar Measurement Technology • F-22 or other aircraft LO maintenance/troubleshooting experience • Proven experience interfacing with diverse teams of contractors, military customers, and depot management • Experience with Repair Verification Radar (RVR) or other zonal RCS equipment • Familiarity with F-22 airframe design and coating materials and methods, aircraft systems and subsystems. • Prior military service at multiple levels of fighter aircraft maintenance, logistics, and support preferred. • Project management experience with strong organizational and communication skills. • Strong communication skills (written and oral), with a willingness to engage with subject matter experts in a variety of different functional organizations. • Previous experience in low observables (LO), survivability, or susceptibility • Experience in radar cross section (RCS) design, Low Observable (LO) materials and processes • Experienced in the application of aircraft spray material to include paint and/or LO material • Project or program management, and execution of signature technology • Ability to operate autonomously with minimal direction from management • Proven experience interfacing with diverse teams of
