Position
Summary The Cogeneration Specialist operates , maintains, and monitors combined heat and power (CHP) systems that simultaneously generate electricity and thermal energy. This role ensures safe equipment performance, tracks control panels, and resolves mechanical and electrical issues to maintain optimal facility operations.
Key Responsibilities
Monitors gas turbines, steam turbines, boilers, generators, and chillers using control software including SCADA systems to ensure continuous, efficient operation. Performs regular preventive maintenance checks, repairs electrical circuits, and conducts overhauls of large internal combustion engines. Adjusts equipment sequencing to align with power demands and optimize energy efficiency. Conducts routine chemical and water treatment testing to protect system integrity. Responds to system alarms and safely restarts facilities during power failures or emergency situations. Maintains accurate logs and documentation of all operations, maintenance activities, and system performance.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training or certification in power plant operations, mechanical systems, or related field required . Active Certified Puerto Rico License Electrician required .
Experience
Previous experience with cogeneration systems, power plant operations, or industrial mechanical systems preferred. Skills & Competencies: Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic control systems. Proficiency with SCADA or similar monitoring software. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Excellent attention to detail and safety protocols. Physical Requirements & Safety Ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, and lift heavy tools and equipment. Strict adherence to OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times . This position does not provide visa sponsorship.
