POSITION
SUMMARY: The Director of Estimating reports to the Senior Director of Estimating and will be responsible for estimates within their Service Line. The Director of Estimating is responsible for assisting the Sr Director of Estimating to oversee the company’s estimating function. In this role the Director helps develop policies and procedures related to the bid process and manages the process to gain final approval for submission of bids and proposals. Manages a portion of the estimating staff to ensure that bids are created, reviewed, and closed out in a timely manner. The Director of Estimating works closely with the Operations Directors to ensure that operational needs are included in the bid approach. Expected travel is between 25% – 50 %.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Planning: Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives Participate in the implementation of strategic business plans Assist in the creation and actively participate in Leadership Training Manage capital requests and group’s budget Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction Operations: Maintain in-depth relations with all Operations Directors and project leads Manage any third parties to which functions have been outsourced Implement operational best practices: controls, systems, etc. Provide daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual reporting as deemed by your supervisor Coordinate with schedule resources, design team members, and other functional groups to ensure estimate completeness Coordinate with Business Development and Operations on upcoming opportunities Supervise and manage estimating processes, to include: Supervise team of estimators and procurement personnel to develop competitive direct and indirect cost estimates, provide input to financial models, etc. Coordinate with Project Controls to ensure well developed proposal schedules and cash flow curves are created that reflect the hours and costs in the estimate. Interface with Proposal Managers as needed to provide input to proposal development. Supervise quantity take-offs and scope reviews with Subcontractors. Comply with standard Phase Code Structure on bids to ensure seamless transfer after award Maintain historical database of actual costs from completed jobs Ensure estimate instructions are clear so internal stakeholders, suppliers, and subcontractors are all using same basis in compiling their estimate Lead effort with Operations Director(s) to develop most cost-effective construction means & methods, traffic control or logistics plans, and project schedule Lead estimate reviews with management to ensure that all estimate data required is provided to Proposal Manager for inclusion in Management Review packages Supervise estimate close-out, subcontractor and material comparisons, final cut/add sheet, completion of all pricing forms, revenue curves, etc. as required for proposal Track and review unsuccessful bids for learning opportunities Work with estimating team to improve estimating practices, estimate set-up, etc. and develop new estimating leaders Risk Management: Understand
