About this role
Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. The Amazon LEO Battery Test & Validation team develops and operates test capabilities that ensure battery hardware meets performance, reliability, and mission requirements. The team supports battery packs and battery electronics throughout development, qualification, and production, partnering across Battery, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Software, Reliability, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering. As a Battery Lab Engineer, you will own the development, readiness, and operation of laboratory test infrastructure supporting battery pack and PCBA level testing. You will work closely with Test Engineers and cross-functional engineering teams to translate test needs into safe, reliable, and repeatable test setups. You will design and build test setups, integrate instrumentation and equipment, perform equipment checkout and OK2Test activities, execute complex testing, troubleshoot hardware and test system issues, and continuously improve laboratory capabilities. This is a highly hands-on engineering role that combines electrical engineering, test system development, laboratory operations, troubleshooting, and battery testing. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Key job responsibilities - Own laboratory test setups and equipment supporting battery pack, PCBA, BMS, and battery subsystem testing. - Partner with Test Engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to understand test requirements and determine equipment, instrumentation, fixture, and laboratory needs. - Design, build, configure, and validate test setups using battery cyclers, power supplies, electronic loads, DAQs, oscilloscopes, DMMs, environmental chambers, and other laboratory equipment. - Design and build electrical harnesses, test fixtures, breakout boxes, instrumentation interfaces, and supporting test hardware. - Integrate battery hardware, PCBAs, communication interfaces, instrumentation, sensors, and test equipment into complete test systems. - Develop equipment checkout procedures and perform system verification before hardware is connected or testing begins. - Lead or support OK2Test and test readiness activities, verifying test configuration, instrumentation, equipment limits, software, safety controls, and data acquisition. - Execute battery pack and PCBA level functional, electrical, performance, characterization, environmental, and reliability testing. - Monitor complex tests, evaluate system behavior, identify abnormal conditions, and safely respond to test anomalies. - Troubleshoot test systems, instrumentation, electrical interfaces, fixtures, harnesses, communication networks, and hardware failures. - Support root cause investigations by developing troubleshooting approaches, performing measurements, reproducing failures, and isolating hardware versus test system issues. - Review test data for data quality, instrumentation issues, telemetry anomalies, and test system performance. - Own equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, configuration control, and test equipment readiness. - Develop and maintain laboratory procedures, equipment documentation, wiring diagrams, test setup documentation, and operating instructions. - Identify and implement improvements to test equipment, laboratory infrastructure, automation, safety, reliability, and test throughput. - Support development and implementation of battery laboratory safety controls and safe operating procedures. - Provide
