As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high-value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team, you'll contribute your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.
Job Description
We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our Optical Diagnostics and Control (ODC) Business Unit at Applied Materials and help build the next generation of semiconductor inspection and diagnostics systems. In this role, you will design and develop high-performance, large-scale distributed software platforms that power advanced manufacturing solutions used across the semiconductor industry. Our Group: The Optical Diagnostics and Control Business Unit is a leading division within Applied Materials focused on developing advanced inspection and diagnostics solutions for semiconductor manufacturing. What you'll be doing
Design and develop scalable, high-performance software for advanced inspection systems. Build and maintain distributed services running on Linux and Kubernetes. Drive system architecture and technical design decisions. Lead end-to-end delivery of major features and cross-functional initiatives. Collaborate closely with Software, Algorithms, Systems, and Architecture teams. Utilize AI-powered development tools to improve productivity, quality, and delivery velocity. Review and validate AI-generated solutions using strong engineering judgment. Optimize system performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Required Qualifications
B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent. 5+ years of software development experience. Strong proficiency in Java, Linux, and Kubernetes. Demonstrated ownership, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration. Solid understanding of
