Role description: We are seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer (Design) to join our roadway team in the Ottawa office. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in roadway and transit corridor design, excellent communication, and proven experience delivering detailed engineering projects. This position is primarily focused on roadway and transit corridor geometric design, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, sustainable, and constructible transportation solutions. Role accountabilities: In this role, you will lead design teams and coordinate the work of intermediate and junior engineers, designers, and CADD staff to ensure quality project delivery and professional development. You will also deliver functional, preliminary and detailed designs for transportation infrastructure projects, including municipal roads, highways, LRT/BRT corridors, and active transportation facilities. You will review engineering drawings and models using tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD, and Civil 3D, ensuring designs are practical, accurate, aligned with project requirements and following local CADD standards You will prepare and review design documents, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for roadways, intersections, and transit facilities. Working closely with other engineering disciplines, you will coordinate and integrate utility, drainage, and grading designs to support well-coordinated, constructible project outcomes. Your work will ensure designs comply with applicable standards and guidelines, including TAC, Ontario Traffic Manuals, MTO requirements and City of Ottawa design standards. You will perform quality checks for technical accuracy and completeness prior to submittal, helping maintain high standards across all deliverables. As part of the project team, you will support the preparation of tender packages and respond to contractor inquiries during construction. You will also mentor junior staff in design tasks and technical best practices, maintain effective communication with clients and stakeholders, participate in client meetings, and support the development of long-term client relationships. Support proposal preparation, technical pursuits, and business development activities, including client relationship management and identifying opportunities within the Ottawa and Eastern Ontario market.
