Basic Job Functions:
Area Leads are experienced frontline leaders who carry growing operational and people leadership responsibility across their assigned area. They are accountable for the performance, consistency, and development of the Team Team Leads within their area — ensuring safety standards, operational production targets, and quality expectations are met across every area line and every shift. This role operates with increasing independence, requiring the ability to read the department broadly, make sound judgment calls in real time, and bring forward operational insights that drive continuous improvement. Area Leads work closely with their Supervisor to build the leadership and operational knowledge that the scope of this role demands. Safety & Standards • Model, reinforce, and hold teammates and teams accountable to safety practices, policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. • Drive consistent application of safety, quality, cost, and 5S standards across the area. • Foster a department culture built on accountability, inclusion, teamwork, and mutual respect. Production & Operations • Oversee daily transportation activities across the area to meet safety, quality, scrap, and productivity goals. • Monitor area performance trends across areas and shifts — identifying patterns, surfacing insights, and bringing forward recommendations before issues escalate. • Take ownership of outcomes across the area, making real-time adjustments to staffing, process, or priorities as conditions require. • Demonstrate proficiency across positions within the department and serve as a resource when operational challenges arise. • Ensure accurate timekeeping and attendance records are maintained across the area. Coaching, Development & Leadership
Support the Supervisor in coaching and developing teammates by providing day-to-day reinforcement and feedback. Communicate daily and weekly objectives, performance expectations, and company priorities clearly and consistently across the area. Conduct performance conversations, contribute to development planning, and document coaching and counseling with increasing independence. Contribute to hiring, promotion, and discipline decisions or recommendations within the area in partnership with the Supervisor. Develop a working knowledge of the full scope of departmental leadership — including goal-setting, performance management, and cross-functional coordination — through active engagement in area operations.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. Compensation Data
