Position
Summary: Coordinates the movement of freight by collaborating with the appropriate Gordon Food Service (GFS) departments, contracted carriers, GFS drivers, and vendors to continually manage, review and update the supply chain to insure GFS with on-time and damage free deliveries while incurring the least possible freight cost to support our GFS customer needs. Provides accurate information on a daily basis to operations, transportation, and purchasing through multiple forms of communication. Situation management through proper analysis of information available at that time and the ability to determine the best course of action with GFS best interest in mind.
What you will do
Communicates and confirms load dispatches to the freight carrier or GFS driver. Secures carrier or GFS resources on an as needed situational basis, including expedited shipments and seasonal activities. Ensures pickups occur on time as determined by the dates on the purchase orders. Confirms pickup dates of the load with the carrier or GFS driver. Follows-up on load status and communicates in a timely manner to Analysts all necessary information of load status. Collaborates with Analysts, operations, receiving, and our carriers to maximize efficiency of loads. Manages the communication and flow of product through Capstone consolidation points. Develops and maintains good relations with suppliers, carriers, internal and external customers. Evaluates lane based activities to identify and implement cost reduction opportunities. Lane performance measurement and evaluation. Adheres to and supports freight management strategies. Coordinates vendor returns as needed. Determines the most cost-effective method of freight for shipments and tender loads to appropriate transportation provider. Perform other duties as assigned. When you will work: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Hybrid Work Schedule: 4 days in office, 1 day from home. What you'll bring to the table: Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field is preferred. At least two years previous food service or supply chain management experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training required. In lieu of the specified education and experience requirements, a proven capability to perform the essential functions of the job, as demonstrated by an equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant work experience may be considered. Brokerage/Trucking background preferred. Experience with Oracle and SAP preferred. Ability to comprehend and operate transportation management systems. Basic knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, email and internet software applications. Knowledge of Oracle transportation management software applications preferred. Knowledge of freight management and supply chain activities. Must demonstrate math and accounting aptitude. Ability to compare/contrast, innovate, analyze, coordinate, and develop solutions to a variety of complex problems. Reading (standard), writing (email, business/professional), speaking (basic, conversational, phone).
