Research & Development – Engineering Intern Scope of Role: The Research and Technology (R&D) group at Evoqua/Xylem is looking for a Engineering Intern to join our team in Tewksbury, MA. The primary job functions of this position would include but are not limited to the operation and troubleshooting test stands according to test protocols, designing of parts using CAD software, taking data, taking samples, calibrating lab equipment, following/executing test plans, and performing sample analysis with analytical equipment. There will be collaboration with the team to meet project deadlines. Our team is cross-functional, and so the role will involve working with engineers, scientists, factory personnel, and product and project management. Roles and Responsibilities: Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, required Show expertise in working with a team and independently Provide technical guidance and support to other technicians. Must be able to follow all safety rules and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Interpret test plans and P&IDs (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams) and execute test plans. Be able to relate P&ID to physical components, understand types of components (valves, pumps, check valves, etc.) and understand various meters, sensors, pressure gauges/flow meters, etc. Review test plan and fill tanks with appropriate chemicals and concentrations, adjust dosing tanks for each test plan, adjust feed makeup water for each test plan. Ensure dosing tanks are in good condition for testing Take data daily and interpret data for recommendations Take samples and analyze using analytical equipment such as IC, TOC, Boron or send for analysis Able to perform simple analysis such as CO2, Silica, Hardness Work with other engineers to prep modules for testing and autopsy Laboratory documentation and report writing Perform continuous maintenance, repair, calibrations and improvements for optimum use Review test plans, choose test stands, modify stands accordingly Required Knowledge, Experience, and Skills: 0-4 years of job experience Pursuing a degree in Mechanical or Chemistry Engineering or an equivalent field. Able to interpret and update diagrams such as P&ID in the assembly and modification equipment is a plus Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools is a plus Experience with electrical systems, devices and circuits, control systems (PLC, HMI, etc.) is a plus Water chemistry experience and an understand water treatment technologies and products is a plus The ability to lift to 50 pounds occasionally is a plus Additional Information: Location: Tewksbury, MA (in person).
