The Scientist I or Medical Technologist I (If certified) performs analysis and evaluates individual and related laboratory data, recognizes patterns or trends that suggest significance of results and determines the level of clinical significance. What You'll Do: • Supports the Hematology Group • Perform, review, and interpret complex, esoteric, and routine chemical, hematological, coagulation, renal, lipid, and hormonal analyses by manual, automated, and/or microscopic methods. • Integrate analytical results with specific and varied clinical trial protocols to evaluate the credibility, appropriateness, and accuracy of test results in order to facilitate the inclusion or exclusion of subjects from research programs. • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair clinical laboratory equipment, including performing routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, and safety checks. Recognize and resolve instrument problems, independently evaluating and taking appropriate action to ensure accurate patient data when major instrument issues occur. • Evaluate analytical reagents, calibrators, and QC standards to ensure the accuracy of analytical results. • Evaluate quality control procedures and results, and implement corrective actions when indicated. Perform ongoing statistical data analysis to detect trends or problems and undertake corrective action. • Conduct comparison studies for precision, accuracy, and linearity on new or existing assays or instruments. Assist in the design and implementation of new procedures and in the modification of existing methods. • Provide instruction for new employees and students in the theory and practice of laboratory medicine and the interpretation of
