About this Role Power Engineering Services, a Quanta Services Company, is looking for Electrical Testing Trainees (NETA 1) to join our growing teams across our Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio, TX markets. This is an entry-level, paid-to-learn position and the first rung of our testing career ladder. As an Electrical Testing Trainee, you will work under the direct supervision of a NETA Level 3 or Level 4 technician, assisting on acceptance and maintenance testing of electrical power systems while you build the documented experience and training hours required to sit for NETA Level 2 certification. No prior electrical testing experience is required — we will train you. What You'll Do
Assist higher-level technicians with acceptance and maintenance testing on switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, cabling, and grounding systems. Perform pre- and post-test sequence assembly and disassembly, including test lead placement, connections, and equipment reassembly. Perform simple measurements and tests under the direct supervision of a NETA Level 3 or Level 4 technician. Set up, transport, stage, and break down test equipment, tooling, barricades, and job-site materials. Record test readings and field notes accurately and hand off complete documentation to the technician in charge. Follow all NETA standards, NFPA 70E requirements, and company safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, arc flash and shock hazard boundaries, and PPE. Maintain test equipment, hand tools, and vehicle inventory in clean, calibrated, job-ready condition. Participate actively in on-the-job training, safety training, and structured coursework toward NETA Level 2 eligibility.Represent Power Engineering Services professionally on customer sites.
What You'll Bring
High school diploma or equivalent, and completion of 8 hours of electrical safety training (may be completed after hire). No prior electrical testing experience required. Trade school coursework, an electrical apprenticeship, military electrical training, or electrician experience is a plus. Genuine interest in building a long-term career in electrical testing and a commitment to earning NETA Level 2 certification. Ability to follow verbal and written instruction precisely and to speak up immediately when something is unclear or unsafe. Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools and reading measurements. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and customer site-access requirements. Ability to lift and carry test equipment up to 50 lbs, work in and around energized equipment areas under supervision, and work outdoors in varying conditions. Willingness to travel to job sites and to work off-hours, nights, weekends, and scheduled outages as project needs require.
