Job Description
The Payments: Merchant and Institutional (PMI) Public Sector Group Head is a senior sales leadership role responsible for shaping and executing U.S. Bank's Payments, Merchant, Card, Treasury Management, and Deposit growth strategy across one of PMI's largest and most strategically important industry groups within the Institutional Client Group (ICG). This organization covers more than 10,000 relationships across Federal Government, Government Banking, Higher Education, Labor Management, Mid-Cap Banks, and Community Banks. This leader will set the strategic direction, build sector-specific sales capability, and lead a high-performing organization focused on delivering the full PMI value proposition. The role requires an enterprise leader who can connect public sector expertise, disciplined sales execution, product partnership, risk awareness, and talent development to accelerate growth across a diverse and complex portfolio of industries. Industry Scope Federal Government, including agencies, authorities, and government-related entities with complex treasury, payment, liquidity, and compliance needs. Government Banking, including state, local, municipal, and public agency sectors requiring specialized treasury, deposit, card, and payment solutions. Higher Education and Labor Management, including institutions, associations, and related organizations with diverse receivables, disbursement, merchant, card, and operating deposit requirements. Mid-Cap Banks and Community Banks, with an emphasis on scalable payment capabilities, treasury solutions, card programs, deposit strategies, and broader financial services partnership opportunities. What You Will Lead Develop and execute a sector-aligned growth strategy that brings together Merchant, Card, Treasury Management, Deposits, and broader PMI capabilities into a unified market approach. Serve as the senior sales leader accountable for sales strategy, execution discipline, pipeline quality, revenue realization, and deposit growth across assigned public sector verticals. Lead a large, complex industry group covering more than 10,000 relationships, ensuring clear prioritization, differentiated coverage, and consistent execution at scale. Partner across Banking, Product, Sales, Risk, Credit, Operations, Compliance, and Marketing to align priorities, remove friction, and deliver stronger outcomes across the full payments ecosystem. Build sector-specific value propositions that connect industry trends, payment flows, liquidity priorities, merchant acceptance needs, card opportunities, treasury transformation, and deposit growth. Lead disciplined sales management routines, including strategic account planning, opportunity inspection, pipeline governance, calling intensity, deal strategy, and growth accountability. Accelerate adoption of an end-to-end selling model that moves beyond individual products and connects the full power of U.S. Bank to market opportunities. Identify and activate expansion opportunities across priority sectors, with a specific focus on low-cost operating deposits, merchant growth, commercial card adoption, treasury modernization, and integrated payables and receivables solutions. Recruit, develop, and retain high-caliber sales talent while building a culture of accountability, urgency, collaboration, preparation, and performance.
