About the role
A Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for leading systems engineering activities across the full system lifecycle for complex Defence capability projects. The role ensures technical solutions are coherent, verifiable, compliant, and aligned to customer and operational requirements. This is achieved through participation in all phases of the systems engineering lifecycle including requirements management, architecture development, design, implementation, integration, verification & validation, risk and change management. What the role will involve The responsibilities of your role will include the following: Lead requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, traceability, verification planning, and compliance management Establish and maintain the system technical baseline, including requirements, architecture, interfaces, design decisions, assumptions, risks, and verification evidence Develop, review, and maintain key systems engineering artefacts, including specifications, architecture & descriptions, interface control documents, verification artefacts, trade studies, technical reports, and systems engineering plans Lead system architecture and interface management activities to ensure the solution is technically coherent, feasible, secure, supportable, and aligned with operational needs Support engineering decisions through structured trade studies, technical analysis, option assessment, and evidence-based recommendations Contribute to systems engineering estimates, schedules, scope definition, resource planning, and technical delivery planning Develop and maintain verification and validation strategies, plans, procedures, matrices, and evidence to demonstrate compliance with applicable requirements Support integration, test readiness, verification execution, defect resolution, and customer acceptance activities Plan, prepare, and support internal and customer technical reviews, including requirements, design, test readiness, production readiness, verification, and acceptance reviews Manage technical risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, opportunities, and engineering change impacts Support configuration management and engineering change control to ensure the approved technical baseline is maintained Coordinate with specialty engineering disciplines, including safety, security, cyberworthiness, ILS, reliability, maintainability, human factors, EMI/EMC, and environmental qualification Support Defence technical assurance, certification, compliance, and acceptance activities, including preparation of objective quality evidence. Participate in internal engineering and quality processes, including non-conformance reports, failure reports, corrective actions, investigations, lessons learned, and continuous improvement activities. Provide technical leadership, task guidance, peer review, and mentoring to junior engineers and other engineering team members.
