Job Title: Senior Manager, Software Engineering Reports To: LBS Shanghai CH R&D Director Department: CH R&D Purpose / Objective The Senior Manager, Software Engineering is responsible for leading the Software Engineering organization in Shanghai, including software development, software architecture, engineering excellence, talent development, and project execution. This role provides organizational leadership and technical direction to ensure successful delivery of software solutions supporting Leica Biosystems’ product roadmap. The incumbent will build a high-performing engineering team, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate closely with global and local cross-functional teams to achieve business and quality objectives. Area of Responsibilities Organizational Leadership Lead, coach, and develop software engineers, technical leads, and software architects. Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Drive workforce planning, talent acquisition, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives. Conduct performance management, coaching, and career development activities for team members. Drive process compliance with regulations and LBS quality standards. Provide leadership in the adoption of AI-augmented software engineering practices to enhance productivity, quality, and innovation. Build organizational capability aligned with future product roadmaps and technology strategies. Project & Portfolio Leadership Lead software execution across multiple product development and platform projects. Establish priorities and allocate resources effectively to meet business objectives. Ensure project delivery meets quality, schedule, cost, and performance expectations. Identify, communicate, and mitigate project and organizational risks. Drive cross-project coordination and governance to maximize organizational productivity. Technical Leadership Provide technical leadership for software architecture, design, development, integration, verification, and maintenance activities. Partner with Principal Engineers and Technical Leads to define software technology roadmaps. Review and guide key technical decisions and architecture strategies. Ensure software solutions meet customer needs, business objectives, cybersecurity expectations, and regulatory requirements. Promote innovation and adoption of new technologies. Engineering Excellence Establish and drive software engineering best practices and development standards. Lead implementation of Agile, DevOps, software quality, and continuous integration practices. Ensure compliance with applicable software lifecycle and medical device regulations, including IEC 62304. Drive software reliability, maintainability, automation, and engineering productivity improvements. Lead DBS and continuous improvement initiatives across the software organization. Global & Cross-functional Collaboration Collaborate with global software organizations to leverage common platforms and technologies. Partner with Systems Engineering, Hardware, Firmware, Product Management, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Service teams. Represent the Shanghai software organization in global technical and business discussions. Influence stakeholders and align teams to achieve strategic business goals. Person Specification Skills / Competencies Strong background in Verification & Validation and Application Engineering. Deep understanding of medical device product development processes, Design Control requirements, and applicable regulatory expectations. Demonstrated experience in verification strategy development, test methodology development, application development, and application validation. Strong strategic thinking and organizational planning capabilities. Proven ability to influence across functions, manage stakeholders, and collaborate effectively in a global
