As a Quality Engineer on the Optum Technology team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and quality of software solutions that power health services nationwide. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional software engineering teams to design and execute test strategies, build robust test automation suites, and continuously improve software quality assurance processes. By utilizing modern testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines, you will help deliver innovative healthcare technology that improves patient outcomes and operational efficiency. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks for web applications, APIs, and microservices Collaborate with software developers, system architects, and product owners to define acceptance criteria, test strategies, and quality standards throughout the software development lifecycle Execute manual and automated functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end tests to validate application performance and usability Identify, log, track, and manage software defects to resolution using defect management and issue-tracking tools Integrate automated test suites into continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to enable continuous testing Analyze testing results, generate quality metrics, and report test coverage and risk assessments to technical and leadership stakeholders Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and architectural discussions to advocate for quality engineering best practices You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of software quality engineering or software development experience 3+ years of experience in software quality assurance and quality engineering 2+ years of hands-on test automation experience using tools/frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or JUnit/TestNG 2+ years of experience with API testing using tools like Postman, REST Assured, or SoapUI 2+ years of experience writing SQL queries for data validation and database testing 1+ years of experience working within an Agile/Scrum development environment Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field Experience integrating test automation frameworks into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab) Experience with performance, load, or security testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling) Knowledge of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Background or familiarity with healthcare IT systems, HIPAA compliance, or health data standards *All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.
