About The Position The Benefits Compliance and Legal Analyst provides legal and compliance support for employee benefit plans, including plan documentation, regulatory filings, vendor agreements, fiduciary governance, and stakeholder guidance. This role monitors applicable benefits laws and regulations, identifies compliance risks, and supports proactive recommendations to ensure effective plan administration. Key responsibilities include: Conduct legal and compliance analysis for employee benefit plans Research regulatory requirements and provide timely recommendations Review and draft vendor-related agreements, including service agreements, data sharing agreements, business associate agreements, amendments, and related communications Advise internal stakeholders regarding plan interpretation and administration Prepare and maintain benefit plan documents, filings, and governance materials Draft and review plan amendments, SPDs, SMMs, notices, administration forms, and related communications Assist with Forms 5500 and coordinate required IRS and DOL filings Prepare plan committee materials, including agendas, minutes, resolutions, bylaws, policies, claims and appeals documentation, and related decisions Support plan committee delegations and training materials Review vendor work and recommendations for accuracy and completeness Coordinate with actuaries, attorneys, accountants, and Human Resources Monitor regulatory changes and support proactive compliance initiatives Maintain compliance calendars and track required notices, filings, amendments, and deadlines Monitor federal and state benefits laws, regulations, and agency guidance, including IRS, DOL, and HHS updates Prepare recommendations, legal memoranda, summaries, and guidance documents regarding benefits compliance matters Support responses to governmental audits and inquiries Evaluate fiduciary obligations and identify potential compliance risks related to plan administration Develop and deliver training for internal stakeholders and plan committees Support compliance initiatives and special projects involving employee benefits matters Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of five years of relevant experience required; ten years preferred. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, communication skills, critical thinking, and document drafting ability required. Preferred qualifications include CEBS, SHRM certification, law firm or legal department experience, and experience with employee benefits compliance, including ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, fiduciary governance, Form 5500 filings, welfare and retirement plans, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, and qualified retirement plans. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities preferred.
