Employment Counsel, EMEA (covering Germany, Italy, Netherlands, France, Luxembourg & Switzerland) About the team and the role Join our Global Employment Law team as Employment Counsel, EMEA, offering practical and strategic employment law mentorship across Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. You will work closely with Human Resources, Employee Relations, business leaders, Legal colleagues, and external counsel to address complex employment issues. This role supports business priorities and helps manage legal risk. Advising on works councils and other employee representative groups is a key responsibility. You will also assist with organizational change in highly regulated European regions. What you will accomplish Advise HR and business leaders on employment issues across the six assigned jurisdictions, including performance management, investigations, accommodations, leave, terminations, redundancies, executive employment matters, restrictive covenants, and litigation risk. Manage employment law advisory services for organizational change, covering restructurings, reorganizations, reductions in force, outsourcing, business transfers, and post-acquisition integration. Offer advice regarding works councils, employee representative organizations, and trade unions, addressing consultation, information, and co-determination needs. Develop practical approaches to complex employee relations matters and draft and negotiate employment, separation, settlement, and executive compensation agreements and employment-related policies. Provide mentorship on cross-border employment matters, including international mobility, remote work, contingent workers, worker classification, employee privacy, workplace monitoring, and AI-enabled employment tools. Support employment litigation, administrative proceedings, labor inspections, and government investigations, working with internal partners and managing external counsel efficiently. Collaborate across Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Ethics, and Global People teams on business initiatives and organizational transformation, while monitoring legal developments and delivering relevant employment law training.

What you will bring

Qualification as a lawyer in at least one EMEA jurisdiction, with approximately 7+ years of post-qualification employment law experience advising employers in Europe. Solid understanding of employment law in multiple jurisdictions such as Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. Experience offering advice on German and European works councils, employee representative bodies, and trade unions, covering consultation and co-determination requirements. Experience in assisting with organizational restructurings, collective redundancies, transfers of undertakings, executive employment matters, internal investigations, accommodations and disability matters, employee privacy, and cross-border employment issues. Sound legal judgment, with the ability to provide practical mentorship, manage multiple complex matters, negotiate effectively, and communicate with teams across functions and jurisdictions.
